A recent study published in Scientific Reports found that caffeine intake was linked to increases in positive affect — basically, an uplift in mood — especially within the first 2.5 hours after waking up (Hachenberger, Li, Realo, & Lemola, 2025). Researchers noted that while coffee didn’t significantly reduce negative feelings, it did help boost alertness and positivity to start the day.
