MyoTOR is one of the newest ingredients blends on the supplement market. It was a top 3 finalist in the Nutra Ingredients Awards in sports nutrition in 2019.
For those of you that don’t know what the Nutra Ingredients Awards are, it’s kind of like the Superbowl for natural ingredients.
The awards are developed by NutraIngredients.com, the leading news source for the nutrition industry in North America, Europe, and Asia.
This article explains everything that you need to know about Myotor.
Where did MyoTOR Come From?
Myotor is a dietary and nutritional supplement formula trademarked in 2017 by PLT Health Solutions.
PLT Health Solutions is a company discovering and developing high quality, scientifically supported ingredient solutions to the natural product market. They’re behind many of the natural ingredients of the leading supplement brands in the world.
With a truly global supply chain and research arm, they have a reputation as the industry’s leading partner for product development.
What Is MyoTOR?
MyoTOR get’s it’s name from myotube formation and mTOR activation.
It’s a blend of Sphaeranthus Indicus Flower extract and Mangifera Indica Tree Bark extract.
Traditionally, these ingredients have been traditionally used for rejuvenation, physical performance and longevity (1).
It’s now appearing exclusively in GNC branded products like Wheybolic Alpha with MyoTOR.
What is Sphaeranthus Indicus Flower Extract?
The Sphaeranthus Indicus or “East Indian globe thistle” is a plant that has been studied for its potential as an anti-inflammatory agent among other things (2).
The flower of the plant is then extracted and put into supplement form.
What is Mangifera Indica Tree Bark Extract?
If you didn’t know what Sphaeranthus Indicus was, that’s understandable.
Mangifera Indica on the other hand, is more commonly known as the mango. One of MyoTOR’s main ingredients is the tree bark from a mango tree that is then extracted and put into supplement form.
Mangifera Indica has commonly been used in Ayurvedic medicine for over 4000 years.(1).
Does It Work?
Two different 8-week, randomized, double-blind, and placebo-controlled studies were performed with MyoTOR (3,4). The first study was performed on 40 healthy men while the second study expanded the trials to 118 healthy men.
The effects were nothing but eye opening. There’s a reason it’s named MyoTOR “Muscle Accelerator”.
Results showed accelerated results in as little as two weeks.
Effects on Muscle Strength
The above 8 week double-blind trial hints to an increase in strength at a rate of 2X faster.
Participants that took MyoTOR and worked out gained 49.7 lbs in upper body strength as opposed to 19.4 lbs for those that worked out and didn’t take MyoTOR (5). I think we’d all like to increase our bench press by 30 lbs more.
For those getting their squat on, the effect on lower body strength was 42.1 lbs vs 19.2 lbs for leg extensions (5). Squats weren’t part of the study but I’d take an extra 22 lbs on leg extension.
Effects on Muscle Endurance
The above trial had similar if not slightly less pronounced effects on muscle endurance.
MyoTOR was shown to increase muscle endurance by 1.5X compared to doing the same workouts without MyoTOR (5).
The Bottom Line
If you’re going to workout and take protein powder anyways, MyoTOR shows promising result to give you that extra edge.
Isn’t that what we’re all looking for anyways?
